I never made a New Year’s Resolution. Ever. As a child, I didn’t see the use of it and as I look back, I have to commend the young me. Why not make a resolution? Everyone was doing it. I even have a godfather that would chastise me to make one. I didn’t know why then, but I know now.
What was the point?
I find it hard to believe that the human race has to wait until the conclusion of a year to realize that they have to make a change in themselves…that they have to actually work on making that change happen. Maybe that’s why most resolutions don’t come to pass. Why force a goal because that’s the day everyone’s supposed to?
What I mostly see is the Negative Nancy who believes that’s they have to fend for themselves in this world, so they decide to suddenly gain an “I don’t care” or “YOLO” attitude. They wear their recklessness with pride, and then they wonder why they have nobody! So, this year, I refuse to go on social media on New Year’s Day just to see, “New Year, new me”, up and down my feed. For the most part, we all know good and well nothing is going to change or some just get worse! Every so often, people forget or mess up their resolutions and decide they’ll try again next year.
Don’t get me wrong, guys, I know that there are people that actually stick with their resolutions. I know there are success stories. But, perhaps, it should be “New Year, Upgraded Me”. Most of us are so caught up in becoming something new that we lose ourselves in the process of bettering ourselves.
Yes, a new year means a fresh start and awoken beginnings. But, isn’t every day of life is? Don’t you have a chance to transform yourself every waking moment?
