Humankind enjoys treasure hunts.

Since childhood, we’re taught to find the perfect pieces to put the cardboard puzzle together. As we mature, we attempt to do this with our hearts. We live in constant pursuit of the part that fits, knowing that there is more to life. That there is something missing.

And there is.

We know there is more because God created us with the desire for eternity.

Ecclesiates 3:11 says, He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

So you see, there isn’t a problem with you. The void you have is intentional; it can only be filled with something bigger and it’s up to you to choose. Some select relationships, money, work or themselves. But would you rather ram the obtuse piece into your heart, twisting and turning it, forcing it to fit? Or, would you want to fill it with what it was actually meant for?

When we tell stories of salvation, we say “we found God” but you can’t say you found “something” that was always made known to you. The best kind of love was always in plain sight. God pours it out on you everyday and He sent His son to die on the cross of calvary for our sins, just to show you the depth of it all (John 3:16).

Love Like Jesus

1 John 3:16 The Passion Translation (TPT)

This is how we have discovered love’s reality: Jesus sacrificed his life for us. Because of this great love, we should be willing to lay down our lives for one another.

Light shines in darkness, doesn’t it?

At the Last Supper, Jesus broke bread with His closest friends for the very last time and gave one more commandment. “Love one another” (John 13:34). It was the darkest day of his life and even with a traitor in his midst, He loved anyway. ISN’T THAT CRAZY?

Every Good Friday, my heart breaks on a new level. I’m taken to a somber place — a place where I remember the agony Christ endured in greater depth. I remember that in His final moments, He cried out, “FATHER take this cup from me,” and yet He still did it anyway.⁣ He exchanged His crown for the cross, all for the sake of us.

He sacrificed His life for the sins of the very people who spat, whipped and nailed him. He died for the people who don’t believe in Him today. He died for us all, even when we betray Him with our actions. Christ is our bridge; He is why we have new life here on earth and in heaven. Our sins are forgiven and we are so ridiculously loved.

We weren’t just commanded to love one another; Christ commanded us to love like HE loves us.

My prayer is for God to give us a heart like His. To be in the midst of the very ones who have plotted our downfall and still, love them anyway. We can sacrifice our thrones of pride and unforgiveness for the crown of life.

The Kind of Love That Lasts Forever

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We can freely celebrate because we accept Christ as our Savior. And now, nothing can separate us from His love.

So you see, a love that lasts forever is one that is sacrificial. It gives us second chances. It is without condition. It is the love of God.

Christ on the cross serves as a reminder that God can resurrect absolutely anything back to life. It is a reminder that through His wounds, we are healed. That, even when we go astray, He would still go to the cross for us over and over again. Regardless of what seems dead in our lives, we are reborn with a whole new meaning when we choose to follow Christ.

Through this post I am reminded of John 14:13 ” Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” It is only Jesus.
