Hello, Adorners! Hope you all are well into showing Monday who’s boss. If you haven’t yet put on your armor — do so! Tarah created a dope newsletter — show your support through signing up, you won’t regret it. You even get a freebie!

I’m sure by now you guys can see that I am Tarah’s personal cheerleader. We were meant to be sisters and I can’t stress that fact enough. We genuinely root for each other’s dreams and I think that as sisters and best friends that’s really important. The love is real y’all!

Through that support, we are also super crazy honest with each other. Some people can’t take the truth but you cannot be a true fan and not provide constructive criticism. Because we build each other up, our confidence in our work and purpose just strengthens.

People tend to seek validation and thrive on compliments to ensure their doing the right thing. I think one way to walk in confidence is by having peers who ground you but respect that your choices are your own. What works for your friend might not work for you so respect those boundaries. We don’t have to do the same thing and set up expectations for similar results.

The other day, I was speaking to my friend and I casually mentioned that I too wanted to achieve a great goal in the future.

She laughed.

If I could meme myself, it would be the man blinking because he’s taken aback. You see, I didn’t even waste my time feeling super offended because we are on two different paths and she doesn’t get aspects of my journey. I learned early on that perspective is everything and hindsight is 20/20.

You don’t have to tell everyone what promises you’ve written on  your heart. You don’t have to tell everyone what dreams and images you have imprinted in your mind. Their inability to understand doesn’t mean you’re crazy or naive.

I know God knows the desires of my heart. I know I have others in my life who get that as a writer I want to achieve a lot. It might seem idealistic but when you know that you can make an impact through your calling, you don’t take someone else’s “no” as your own. Many are called, few are chosen. Through praying for discernment and (failed attempts at other aspirations lol), I know my place.

One of my favorite Bible verses is:

“This is why I speak to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.”   – Matthew 13:13

It’s loaded with different meanings but from this I see that your decisions will confuse others. It’s not your job to explain because some just won’t get it. If people do not believe that the impossible is possible for God, what are you going around asking for opinions?

Why shouldn’t I aspire for more? You don’t have to submit to one’s definition of “practical.” There are people who think being a doctor easy and some who think being a teacher is hard —  it’s all about perception and calling.

As a writer, I make new worlds possible for my reader. Telling a writer that they can’t make their dreams a reality is offensive. Why should your limits be mine? Why can’t I open the doors that have been locked for you?

Don’t let dream snatchers take you from cloud nine into smoke-veiled confusion. It’s really hard to not seek approval from our peers but doubting if you should clap for yourself is the worst.

The world’s expectation of a “no” shouldn’t stop you from going after your “yes.” Go get your blessing. It has your name branded on it and while they can’t see it, what is yours will forever and always be yours.

Encourage your friends and genuinely support them. I read people’s comments on social media and all the praise but out of the twenty comments, five would actually go buy the product, listen to the song, subscribe etc. Be about the positive you put out there, make the smile they had on their face reading your comment last longer.

I feel like we see stories of perseverance and believe that it was a “1%” angled story. Imagine if we actually thought everyone deserved the best of the best and got off from hating on the sidelines to rooting for them.

**DISCLAIMER** Learn how to encourage your friends but also how to let them know about themselves. If ol girl’s makeup is NOT blended and she wants this as a profession–let her know. If your boy has a torn ACL but only sees sports, let him know about the other options available in that field. Wanting the best for your friends does have it thorns if their dream isn’t attached to a calling.

To my fellow dreamers, from” practical” to out of this world, don’t let the naysayers kill your vibe. Hold on tight to your inner circle of friends who want you to win and be the best you can be. And if it all fades away, trust that God has you covered. Keep on pushing.

Meditate on this: Mark 11:23-24 NIV “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea’, and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Much love,

Medge 🙂
