What are you thinking about?

Probably a million of things.

Okay, maybe not a million — but definitely between 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts… today.

It’s proven. The National Science Foundation conducted a study and concluded that’s how many thoughts the average person has. Out of those, 80% of these thoughts are negative and 95% are the same thing we play over and over and over again.

This study was conducted in 2005 — before social media was all the rage it is now. So can you even imagine how much that number has increased?!

Actually, let’s not even think about that.

We don’t need science to know there’s power behind our thoughts — how our thoughts influence our lifestyle. We don’t need science to know self-criticism has the power to hold us back in a multitude of ways.

What we need is a solution to fight back. The world chose affirmations; I choose the word of God.

The main difference between biblical affirmations and positive affirmations:

An affirmation is pretty much anything you say or think. It’s taking full responsibility for the trajectory of your life. It’s consciously choosing to say statements that will add or subtract to your life.

Generally, positive affirmations are effective. Imagine how much more impactful these declarations will be if they’re rooted in the Word of God?! Imagine praying the promises of God over your life?!

  • With positive affirmations, you are working from your own strength.
  • With biblical affirmations, you are totally dependent on God.

People say: just think “happy thoughts” as if that’s the easy solution but happy thoughts are situational. The only way we can have joy and peace, a permanent state, is when we keep our minds on Christ.

The idea is simple and yes, the act is doable but changing your thoughts isn’t easy at all. You can open your mouth and say it. True. But it’s another thing to believe it.

The more we say anything, the more it actually starts to sink in. If we start intentionally declaring the Word of God over our lives, we’ll begin to believe His promises. We must be careful not to seek out affirmations backed by worldly practices.

As a believer, the only thing we should be meditating on and “speaking into the atmosphere” is the word of God.

Are you ready for these biblical affirmations to change your life?

As I was writing my first book, Claim Your Crown, I discovered a ridiculous amount of ways to encourage women to embrace their crowns in Christ. In preparation for the Claim Your Crown book release, I got the idea to create something smaller — something we can do right now to work on our confidence. (Update: my book is available to order now and the devotional is free on the YouVersion Bible app!!!)

25 Biblical Affirmations to Build Your Confidence

I am a daughter of the King.

1 Peter 2:9 The Passion Translation (TPT)

But you are God’s chosen treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world.

I am remarkably made.

Psalm 139:14 (HCSB) – I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well.

I am worth more than rubies.

Proverns 31:10 MSG – A good woman is hard to find and worth far more than diamonds.

I am always on God’s mind.

Psalms 139:13 – You alone created my inner being. You knitted me together inside my mother’s womb

Psalm 139:13-16 The Message (MSG)

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb.

I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made!

I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something.

Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.

I am more than a conqueror.

Romans 8:31 – If God is for us, who can be against us? We are more than conquerors through Him who loves us)

I am strong and courageous.

Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV – Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

I am not who I once was; I am forgiven.

2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

I wholeheartedly believe my prayers are heard.

Mark 11:24 – I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.

I will unashamedly live for God, not man.

Philippians 1:20 – I eagerly expect and hope that I will have nothing to be ashamed of. I will speak very boldly and honor Christ in my body, now as always, whether I live or die.

I will not be led astray; God is always guiding me.

Psalm 71:17 – O God, you have taught me ever since I was young, and I still talk about the miracles you have done.

I will seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness.

Matthew 6:33 – Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

I represent the light of Christ; I shine wherever I go. (Matthew 5:13-16)

Psalm 71:17 – O God, you have taught me ever since I was young, and I still talk about the miracles you have done.

God covers me with His feathers; I find refuge under His wings.

Psalm 91:4 – He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

God’s wisdom exceeds all things, worldly knowledge can’t compare. /I will not depend on my own understanding

Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

I extend love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Galatians 5:22-23 – But the spiritual nature produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, and self-control. There are no laws against things like that.

No matter what I go through, God’s glory will be revealed through my life.

Romans 8:18 – I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to me.

Philippians 1:6 – I’m convinced that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it through to completion on the day of Christ Jesus.

God is intentional with my life; all things are working for my good.

Romans 8:28 – God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

God is not punishing me; He is fighting on my behalf.

Deuteronomy 20:4 – For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!

I have a future filled with hope.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I have everything I need to flourish. (2 Peter 1:3)

2 Peter 1:3 – By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

Fear does not hold me captive.

2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline

I have peace that surpasses all understanding.

Philippians 4:6-8 – Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

I will put on the full armor of God everyday.

Ephesians 6:10-18 NLT – A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

I can overcome everything with Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57 New Living Translation (NLT)  – But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

God’s will be done.

Matthew 6:10 KJV – Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

I wanted to end on my favorite passage: Romans 8:38 NLT. Let’s call it a bonus affirmation!

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Declaring Biblical Affirmations is only the first step.

There’s still more work to do, girl. Saying these biblical affirmations is only part of the process. What you do, say or think with the rest of your day is equally as important so make it count!

Carry biblical affirmations with you everywhere and seek God with whatever you face. Create rich soil and God will plant a seed. Weeds of insecurity, faithlessness, and despair will surely die.

I sincerely hope you declare and pray! This will be the start of something new in your life. (Don’t forget to pick up my free printable!)
