3 Winter Skincare Tips

January 19, 2017

The same way you dress your body in stylish layers of comfortable clothing every winter is the same way you should be cleansing, lathering and dousing your skin with care every winter! There are layers to this skincare thang. As WOC, it’s imperative we take care of our skin, especially in the dry, brittle season.

It’s so easy not to, though. I feel ya. We say:

  1. We don’t have the time.
  2. It doesn’t matter since no one can see our skin underneath all of our clothes.

Meanwhile, we walk around all cute, covered and protected but underneath all those clothes, our skin looks like it has been on the battlefield with baby powder! HA. Exposed. Didn’t think I’d go there, huh?! We have to do better hahaha.

Hence, why I’m here. Believe it or not, there are three easy ways to care for your skin…yes, in the winter time, girl! Here’s what you should do for your best winter skincare results:

  1. Exfoliate – Either go buy a scrub or create your own! I’m not really into DIY so I’d probably go with the first option but if you’re creative down to the nitty gritty, go for it. I know you need sugar and…I don’t know — just Pinterest the rest! I assure you, it’s easy though haha. I see it done up and down my timeline all the time!
  2. Take a Long, WARM Shower – Notice I said warm, and not hot. I know you’re cold, girl. Me too. But you are hurting your skin when you indulge in all that heat. It may feel good but it’s not so good to your poor skin. You’re drying it out in the process!
  3. Moisturize…immediately – I’m totally the meme of the cartoon that chills out in all of her birthday suit glory after a shower. I’ll go on my phone and scroll through Insta or I’ll just do nothing and lie there! However, I can’t afford to do that in the winter and neither can you. The best thing you can do is moisturize right after you get out the shower.

When my siblings and I were children, my mother used to rub Palmer’s Cocoa Butter on us all. Recently, I’ve rediscovered it for myself. I’ve been primarily using Cocoa Butter Formula Daily Skin Therapy Lotion, Cocoa Butter Formula Daily Skin Therapy Concentrated Cream and the Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick (because your lips need love, too!)

Use the therapy lotion right after you towel dry for optimal results. And when you’re heading out to brave those biting winds, use the cream. That one is ideal for your hands, elbows and knees. I love how it doesn’t leave me feeling greasy…and they all smell really good, too! Ah, childhood.

Right next to coconut oil, cocoa butter is WOC’s best friend. You can’t tell me I’m wrong! Palmer’s Cocoa Butter is clinically proven to heal rough, dry skin; it smoothes marks and scars and tones. The rich natural moisturizer locks your silky and rejuvenated skin in with 24 hour moisture. Ya heard me, no ash!

  • Window of opportunity | There are numerous things God will put us through in order for us to get the message of WAITING and giving Him our whole hearts and attention. Breakups, feelings of purposeless and even getting the opportunity to leave home and follow Him elsewhere. Last month, when my pastor announced that there was one more spot for our church mission trip to the Dominican Republic and that everything was covered, I was like, "JESUS, THAT YOU?!" 😩 Next thing I knew, I was going through biblical training and getting my mind, spirit and suitcase right for going abroad. I've always wanted to go on mission and I know God opened up this space for me, especially at such as time as this 🙌🏾 He knew I had to get away, He knew I had to experience Him in a new way. He's going to blow my mind here, I can feel it. I'm excited to do what He has called us to do: make disciples of every nation by action and sharing the message of His relentless love.
  • The family's baby genius is going off to study in London and back at Boston U for neuroscience 😩 I'm sooo incredibly proud of all that you are. Continue to show people you can have beauty, brains, be LIT for yourself and on fire for God. Love youuuu ✨ #BU2021 #WomeninStem
  • No need to prove anything to anyone. No need to mold yourself to any expectation set. All those goals? Squash em for yourself.
  • I'm always the happiest with family and friends 🤗
