EMBRACING THE RAIN ON MY PARADE

rain on my parade adorned in armor

Hey guys, Medge here!

Summer has poured “rain on my parade” in the most unexpected of ways. From the silly little things like going to an editors meeting at 2:15 because you missed the follow up email saying that it now started at 2 :)…to the even more serious things, like missing the bill payment for school… or, even having a cracked screen on my laptop that holds all my writing files (including this post that I rewrote) with no funds to pay for damages. Needless to say, I was drowning.

SNAPCATION: CANADA CAPTURES

I’ve been wanting to travel all summer. I had been feeling so off (for many reasons) and needed a break. God granted me the desires of my heart because last Thursday, my mom called me and told me to pack my bags for a trip to Canada the very next day!

Yes, just like that.

COME AS YOU ARE

I’m really good at being “okay.” I’m great at it, actually! Doesn’t matter where or when, I can always muster up a smile for anyone.

My best friends, however, know me very well. And so I don’t feel the need to act outside of myself when I’m not feeling like myself. When I’m unhappy, they see it in my eyes. When I’m turned off, they see it in my demeanor. When I’m agitated, they see it in my silence. My mom is especially good at reading me! I don’t have to say a word, they just feel it.

So I’m continuously amazed…not by how my closest friends have the ability to feel like something’s off with me, but by the mere fact that God already knows.

3 WAYS TO SPEAK UP WHEN SOCIETY SAYS SHUT UP

Society raised us to speak up and be heard…unless it’s a controversial subject, that is. Yes, we were taught to speak up but as time progresses and situations worsen, we’re being shouted at to shut up.

Shut up, no one cares about your skin. Shut up, no one cares about your hair. Shut up, no one cares about your parents being deported. Shut up, no one cares about your faith. Shut up, shut up, shut up… unless you want to talk about fluff.

Now, I’m usually social media silent on issues like police brutality because it’s disheartening and my website isn’t a platform for politics. However, having a heart isn’t political.

SUMMER NIGHTS WITH ASOS

Summer — I actually hate it.

I say so every year it comes along because every year I still mean it! It’s just not for me. And if it was up to me, I seriously would consider relocating to cooler land just for these few months! People think I’m crazy but my reasons are solid (bugs, scorching heat, sweat). Who likes that?

Like, the day I shot this look, it was so hot. Thankfully, I have a nice glow in these photos but really, I think I was on the brink of glistening in perspiration lol. Shout out to my glands for holding back for the sake of these photos!

NO FUTURE PLANS?

I was having a great conversation with my dad yesterday — it was the kind where you figure out future plans together or try to get one another to understand future plans that one is trying to set in motion.  A nice father-daughter convo where I explain how I’m aiming to “get my life.” The topic? Grad school and jobs.

MAKIN’ ME BLUSH

Blush. It isn’t just for beating that pretty face of yours, ladies! And it’s not just the tint your cheek takes on when embarrassed, flustered or flattered.

For such a subtle color, blush has taken over our favorite shops and maybe even our own closets in such a bold way. And, I sure don’t mind! Pink is my favorite color so any rendition of the shade makes me feel so happy inside! Isn’t it crazy how what you adorn yourself with can affect your mood? The color is such a perfect play on youth and femininity — wearing it even brings out the playfulness in me.

Here’s a quick fun fact: the physical act of blushing is universal. So, wearing blush must be, too! (No, I am not a scientist.)

HYPE OVER STRIPES

Stripes have become a staple in every fashion lover’s closet.

They’re simple yet bold and incredibly easy to style. Maybe that’s why they’re my absolute favorite print.  I hate cheetah, I hate leopard (or anything animal print for that matter). But stripes? I can do. They’ve become the new black, a neutral, a major wardrobe key!

How To Beat The Waiting Game

Waiting: I hate it. I like to know what’s next and what’s going on.

So when I began to apply for internships, my thought process wasn’t any different. I confidently applied in the beginning of April, prepared to be set for the summer. But something strange happened — unsettling even. I wasn’t getting any answers.
