How To Beat The Waiting Game

Waiting: I hate it. I like to know what’s next and what’s going on.

So when I began to apply for internships, my thought process wasn’t any different. I confidently applied in the beginning of April, prepared to be set for the summer. But something strange happened — unsettling even. I wasn’t getting any answers.

KEEPING YOUR VISION | GRADUATION DAY

Girrrrrl, it’s crazy what a vision will have you do to get to where you want to be. Let me tell you the story of how I got to this location for this shoot!

I was in the car with my friends on our way back to school and we passed by this monument-looking site in Princeton. I was so drawn to the structure, it’s etherealness and could envision myself doing a style post there for graduation. And so, I did. I had tunnel vision when it came to this location. I knew without a doubt that my shoot was happening there.

I woke up extremely early, got dressed and with my brother and Medge in tow, we headed out to the location so I could take photos there before my ceremony. I thought it wouldn’t be a big deal since the site was on the way to my school but man, was I wrong.

NAUTICAL FEELS WITH BANANA REPUBLIC

Nautical, navy — whatevs! You catch my drift. Omg, get it…drift?! Banana Republic sent me this beautiful dress and blazer and I got the sailor “vibe.” I was trying to think of something creative for the title of this post (you know how I do). But got any ideas?

Wait, actually. As I wrote that initial paragraph, I just figured out what I’ll be writing about! Going with the motions. (Think waves and all that ocean deep stuff.)

GRADUATION INSPO | SHOPBOP

Guys! My graduation is Friday!!!

Yes, yes — I’m graduating! I’m saying this to you all but I can’t quite believe it myself. The years really just happened so fast. It feels like I recently just began this blog in a COM class I had freshman (or sophomore) year. I’m seeing my friends from high school graduate college and I’m just like, “this is so surreal.” So maybe that’s part of the reason I took so long to find a graduation outfit haha. Well, that, and the fact that I had to focus on finals first. Priorities, priorities.

Go Your Own Way

Happy May! It’s all about renewal, choosing your own path way and moving on.

As we pack up boxes to leave college and fill up suitcases for much needed vacations, I know the one thing we’re all worried about in the back of our mind is “what’s next”? “Which way should I go?”

4 Things To Do When You Feel Hopeless

My senior year of college has never been so unsettling.

I’m only taking 3 classes (one online) with Tuesdays and Thursdays off and I’m interning remotely with Gorgeous in Grey. I thought this semester would be pretty chill. I thought I’d be sleeping in more (which is true). I thought I’d have a whole lot more time for my blog (false). I thought I’d just be freeeeeeeeee!

Well, it’s on and off. I’m super busy and when I’m not, I feel off because it’s like I should be doing something! Weird, huh? But through the many homework assignments and traveling to and fro from the city, I’ve just been going through multiple tests that were supposed to drain me. I’m talking physical, spiritual and all of that, people.

My recent obstacle has been fighting hopelessness.

Lessons My Mom Taught Me on Beauty & Dignity

My mother taught me to represent myself well at all times. Hair? Done. Face? Beat. Clothes? Ironed. Shoulders? Back.  Beauty tips came with the package of growing into my womanhood.

And as a girly girl, I loved it. Even the annoying parts.

If she saw me slouching, she’d just look over at me and I’d just know to stand upright. We laugh about it all the time because she still does it ’til this day!

When we need new foundation, we hit up Sephora together. If I’m pondering a new hairstyle, I scrounge the internet to find her the perfect photo. We send each other texts asking each other for advice on great deals we’ll find at the mall. (I’m a graduating senior from college and I text my mother multiple times in the day! And don’t get me started on our phone calls.)

While my mom taught me all the girl and surface-y stuff, the real foundation of our relationship are the heart things. She has always been reminding me of my beauty and worth every single day, showed me how to carry myself with respect and dignity, brings up my past accomplishments and then goes even further to encourage me about the promise of my future.

GET IN FORMATION

Okay ladies, now let’s get in formation! Man, that song is catchy. Hey guys, Medgina here!

I can’t believe how fast time is flying by – I’ve almost been writing for Adorned in Armor for a year. I’m loving the new site and can’t wait to see the remaining additions!

Maybe I do have special privileges of being featured and writing on AIA since I’m Tarah’s sister, but the main reason I am here is because she believed in me and saw the abilities I had that could be used in different outlets. This is contributor thing is still new for me and I’m still learning. Thankfully, it’s in a space where it is all about inspiring women to grow/learn in all aspects.

What I’m trying to say, however, is that you don’t have to be related to someone to support them. If you’re a woman, you’re automatically initiated into the sisterhood. This sisterhood is limitless no matter the race, size or economic status.

Now, let’s talk feminism.
