Go Your Own Way

May 2, 2016

Happy May! It’s all about renewal, choosing your own path way and moving on.

As we pack up boxes to leave college and fill up suitcases for much needed vacations, I know the one thing we’re all worried about in the back of our mind is “what’s next”? “Which way should I go?”

If you’re moving on to a new stage in your life (graduating, job, internships) — take a breath and appreciate the moment that you’re in. We get so ready to jump to the next thing and make plans without reveling in the freedom spring/summer brings.

It took me a while, but I finally have my footing on my campus. Before I was stumbling along, asking everyone and searching everywhere for advice. Should I change my major? Am I doing this right? What about internships?

I had this intense fear of missing out. I wanted a pat on the back or nudge into the right direction.

On top of that, I couldn’t stop asking for advice! Even when it was my path to go on, it was hard for me to confidently go my own way. I didn’t want to look back and regret anything.

That desire to dabble and experience everything will actually cause you to not see opportunities for what they are. I genuinely love to be sure about what I’m doing from clothes to ordering food at a restaurant.

Looking at the menu, I see so many amazing options and don’t want to settle. Because there could be something better, more fulfilling, a new dish that could possibly be my favorite.

That’s the thing, life is full of endless possibilities. You’re not going to be able to do everything you want to. That may be in your plan, but who knows what God has in store?

You don’t have to do the same things as your friends. You don’t have to live up to expectations that were not set for you. Do your own thing and respect that it’s what you’re doing.

It may look desirable now but some things just aren’t meant for you.

When you’re at the point where moving forward is all you can do, look around you. Being comfortable in doing things around unfamiliar faces will get you places.

It’s in the moments where we over-plan, over-think, over-worry, that we end up not moving at all. Now that is how you miss out on life. There will always be this way, or that way, but just make sure you’re going a way.

We should constantly be evolving and creating but take some time to live in your personal spring. Even though you want your life laid out for you or for your daily horoscope to be true- the current place that you’re is the right place for you in this moment.

Much Love,

Medge

  • Never feel obligated to prove yourself to anyone. When you know who you are, that is MORE than enough ❤️
  • Throwback to last summer when I traveled to DC for the national Miss Black USA pageant! So honored to be crowned @missblacknewjersey18! I created a GoFundMe campaign called, “Tarah Takes Heart” in hopes to garner support to nationals, raise #strokeawareness and empower more girls through my platform! I’m super dedicated to not only talk about the physical ailments that plague the hearts of women but to cover all of the emotional. It’s imperative to take care of the very vessel that keeps us going, ladies! Please see the link in my bio for my GoFundMe story — hope you can support! ❤️
  • You know when you wait for the right moment to share something REALLY important? I’ve been planning to make this announcement for MONTHS now 😭. Life has been such a whirlwind and we’ve been seeing more and more of just how precious time is in this world. I’m realizing that there’s no such thing as a perfect moment. YOU have to create it for yourself. I have butterflies right now and that’s really rare for me but I finally am ready to let it out. Ladies and gents, I am your MISS BLACK NEW JERSEY 2018! 😭🙌🏾✨✨✨ —
Please read up on my story on my #GoFundMe gofundme.com/tarah-takes-heart (link in bio) and more about the platform I have chosen to dedicate my reign to: stroke. My mom suffered from one in 2013, rocking our lives forever. But most importantly, her presence in my life has been the most life changing. It is because of her that I want to give back to the stroke community and raise awareness of the issues of the heart!!! Both emotionally and physically ❤️ Ya girl needs the funds doeee so go show majorrrr love to that gofundme and share button 😂 You can also donate through PayPal (PayPal.me/tarahlynn) and Venmo (TarahSaint).
